On the Fringe

On The Fringe is an experimental structure combining a Victorian bandstand and Arabic macramé, which will encourage people and thoughts usually ‘on the fringe’ of society to take centre stage. This participatory installation invites the public to take part in the act of interconnection, making macramé knots to cover the walls of the wooden bandstand and creating a gathering space for all. Commonality, previously celebrated and shouted loud from bandstands across the land, is eroding fast from British life and fuelling fear amongst our communities. Providing beautiful Islamic geometric shade, On The Fringe creates a sacred space for a diverse audience to weave together many a discussion, relaxation, melody, workshop and performance.
